Introduction

Pro Verzasca was founded in 1933 with the aim of supporting the local community, which was once poor and isolated. Over the course of 90 years, it has succeeded in making the most of the resources of the area, including Ticino sheep’s wool.
Today, thanks to its production chain, Pro Verzasca has become an alpine reference point for wool processing; in recognition of this, the Federal Office of Culture has included this trail in the list of living traditions in Switzerland. As you follow the route, you will discover every stage of processing, from the arrival of the fleece to the finished products.
The trail will take you through workshops, educational spaces and, finally, the craft shop.
Not all stages of the production chain are visible along the trail, since some take place at home or in other locations. Even so, each station will reveal a piece of the puzzle, showing you how local tradition and technological innovation come together to create a truly one-of-a-kind production chain.
